flutter confession friday
The beautiful KC tagged me for a meme. But, as we all know I totally suck at responding to memes or awards. I am just really bad about it. So, in answer to her meme, I bring you this. My confession.
I am a cheeseball.
It’s true. I am a sucker for a love song. I am a sucker for a gothy, angsty love song. I am a sucker for a well written, orchestral love song. I am a sucker for a cute boy singing a love song. If you catch me at the wrong time of the month, you very well may find me getting slightly teary and verklempt over some poptart singing about love.
I am a cheeseball.
You can count on me to love dissonant chords, unresolved notes and something slightly pained in a love song. Something delicious and longing and well, slightly cheesy. Like this:
I mean, the name of the SONG is Lovesong, for pete’s sake
cheeseball lyric:
whenever i’m alone with you
you make me feel like i am free again
whenever i’m alone with you
you make me feel like i am clean again
lifehouse- You and Me. Look at the kid, he’s like…12 and makes me bawl. That’s a whole brick of velveeta, right there
cheeseball lyric:
cause it’s you and me and all of the people
with nothing to do
nothing to lose
and it’s you and me and all of the people
and I don’t know why
I can’t keep my eyes off of you
*sniffle*
This next one is my favorite love song. I can’t function when this song is on, and as she will attest, I secretly daydream of the romantic boombox moment.
cheeseball lyric:
in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
You. Complete. Me.
All hail the goth girls, in this next entry.
cheeseball lyric:
When you cried I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me
Now if you’ll pardon me, I must don my most beautiful white dress and climb a tree.
Rob Thomas. Sigh. Now, I refuse to call any of his lyrics cheesy. He is a HELL of a writer.
plus I think he’s really cute. Shut up.
I refuse to call them cheeseball lyrics:
I am the white dove for a soldier
Ever marching as to war
I would give my life to save you
I stand guarding at your door
I give you all that I am
So now you know my horrible secret.
Still love me?

I heart all those songs, especially Lovesong. In fact, many of these songs were on a list I once made fo my potential wedding playlist.
May 2nd, 2008 at 10:18 am
After we finish our knock down, drag out over Rob Thomas, THEN I’ll love you.
May 2nd, 2008 at 10:19 am
“Still love me?”
MORE THAN EVER. Duh.
May 2nd, 2008 at 10:36 am
Whatever. I still know your real secrets….muwahahahaha!!!!!!
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:05 am
lovesong and in your eyes?
come on… is there a girl on earth that doesn’t love them?
If you don’t fantasize about the boombox moment… you aren’t HUMAN.
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:07 am
i love you even more than before!
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:31 am
Oh my god I think I love you more than I did before reading this post. I have a serious guilty pleasure for Evanessance that Im not sure I am allowed to have as a 41 year old woman. And the Cure? Oh hell yeah, we go way back. I am a complete music junkie, and get ridiculously excited when I find a fellow addict, especially if we happen to share a favorite band or two or three. Rock on girlfriend!
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:35 am
Now, see, I would never think someone who wears as much make-up as Robert Smith could ever be whiztastic. I call party foul on that first song–you’re holding out on a Barry Manilow fave, aren’t you?
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:39 am
i would write you a cheesy love song about how i still love you, and stand outside your window holding up a boombox, but i seem to only be good at making up dirty lyrics, so I’ll just leave this comment instead
May 2nd, 2008 at 12:01 pm
I dig all of those songs.
Fellow cheeseballs unite!
May 2nd, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Oh yeah… love all these songs..
May 2nd, 2008 at 12:30 pm
I’m a little confused – I love almost every song you put up there. So either I’m a cheeseball too or you just have FAB taste in music. I’m going with the FAB thing, but…
Can I ask what kind of cheese we’re talking about before I commit to being it? A nice bleu/cheddar with a little onion and worcestershire kind of cheeseball I can identify with, but one of those weird store-bought things with the red-dyed cheese? Nyeah, not so much.
May 2nd, 2008 at 12:31 pm
*sigh*
I love these too. And you know, of course, that Evanescence (in its original form, anyway) is from here!
May 2nd, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Whenever I teach creative writing, cheezeball song lyrics are all I read. You gotta love ‘em or weep.
May 2nd, 2008 at 1:35 pm
“In your eyes” is not cheesy. I refuse to believe that. Ever.
May 2nd, 2008 at 1:49 pm
From one cheeser to another, have a good weekend. xo
May 2nd, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Yup.
May 2nd, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Scads. Oodles, even. MmmmmmWAH!
May 2nd, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Love CHEESEBALLS!
May 2nd, 2008 at 3:18 pm
That Evanescense song was my favorite for a long time. Unfortunately, I get bored easiy and move on quickly from one favorite to another.
have you heard Ingrid Michaelson’s “The Way I Am”? If I had to pick my current one I think that’d be it. She’s got such a sweet voice!
Anyway… yeah, still love ya
May 2nd, 2008 at 3:24 pm
You are so in charge of making a mix CD for my car.
May 2nd, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Awesome songs. AWESOME.
Should I ever get married again, you can be in charge of the music.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:15 pm
SIGH. I want to be 15 again. I want to sit in my pink bedroom and weep copiously as the Cure or Howard Jones plays on my tape deck. I want the worst problem in my world to be the fact that my bangs won’t stand up straight.
That’s why we like these cheesy songs. Because they remind of a time that was so pure and innocent and simple.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:19 pm
I do love me some cheese. But you knew that.
May 2nd, 2008 at 5:29 pm
always, Cheesy McCheeserstein.
May 2nd, 2008 at 7:26 pm
course i still loves yuze you big cheeseball.
May 2nd, 2008 at 8:03 pm
I still love you, and I love that Evanescense song, too. I think I spelled that wrong. The rest of the songs…VERY cheesy!
May 2nd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Cheesy is fabulous.
May 2nd, 2008 at 9:30 pm
I once got teary over a dog food commercial. Da widdle puppy was lost, how could i not be sad?
May 3rd, 2008 at 6:12 am
I am cheese personified – I sing Vision of Love to myself in the car, sweets. Kindred spirits.
May 3rd, 2008 at 9:59 am
ok so the cure is so NOT cheeseball. robert smith was my first pretend boyfriend.
May 3rd, 2008 at 10:36 am
Even more.
May 3rd, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Umm, dude, I am like so singing OMD’s If You Leave right now…that and Time After Time.
I’m bringin’ my boombox to SanFran.
May 3rd, 2008 at 1:31 pm
I am in such good company.
I love it!
May 3rd, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Flutter, say it ain’t so! Not la fromage, c’est no. N.Ooooooo.ooooo.oooo.
May 3rd, 2008 at 2:29 pm
That’s a whole brick of Velveeta right there.
That, I love.
And a lot of that Evanescence CD, actually.
And a lot of Peter Gabriel, actually.
Even loved parts of that movie, “Love, Actually.” (But I’d do Liam Neeson over Hugh Grant onna counna sheer depth and brilliance win out over incredible hair, Rodney the Yoga God, being an exception.)
What is not to love, Punkin. You is shiny gold with sparkling purple specks. Caaamon.
May 3rd, 2008 at 3:19 pm
You and me, chica. We’re both musically warped in exactly the same way. I totally just got teary.
May 3rd, 2008 at 4:02 pm
you aren’t getting rid of me THAT easy…
I almost wrote “ride”…as in “you aren’t getting RIDE of me THAT easy… no way, baby…I’m A HARD RIDE!!! YEAH!!! YEAH!!! YOU LIKE THAT?? YEAH?? WELL, WHAT ABOUT THAT??? HUH?? WHAT ABOUT THAT???
who’s your daddy?
all that from one little “e”.
May 3rd, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Yay cheesy songs! Yay Flutter!
May 3rd, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Hmmm. I don’t know how well I can take all of this. I’m deeply hurt that you called the cure cheesy. I don’t know if I can forgive you.
May 3rd, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Everybody ought to have a few lovesongs in their life. I mean they are a way to mark the great loves of our lives. The first kiss, the first date, the first time he/you said “I love You” The first time you broke up, had your heart ripped from your chest. The cheesier the better!
I look forward to meeting you at Blogher…preferrably at the bar!
May 4th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
When I first started reading this post, I was thinking “Yeah, I’m a cheeseball, too.” And then you started listing songs that have tugged at my heart for YEARS. I love, love, love “My Immortal,” (and just about anything else by Evanescence).
I tear up at the end of most movies, too. My kids think I’m a big goofball, and maybe they’re right. But, so what!!!! Life’s too short to not feel my way through it.
May 4th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Ahem…Robert Smith is not cheeseball. Now if you had said you loved Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ and then quoted a passage, I’d still definitely love you, but then I’d say, ‘yep, cheeseball!’
May 5th, 2008 at 5:58 am
Oh Flutter…In Your Eyes, may be the best love song ever. I too cannot function when it is on. And I lurve me some Rob Thomas.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:14 am
Forever and for always.
May 7th, 2008 at 10:14 am
Cheeseballs unite! I (heart) Rob Thomas….he is indeed a cutie-pie.
May 9th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Holy sweet uncle jebus, you ARE a cheeseball. But now you have evanescence stuck in my head for the next four days, so I suppose I’m right there with you.
